Coal Tar, known for its antiseptic qualities, has been used in dermatology for more than 100 years. Coal Tar is used in soaps, shampoos and ointments to treat psoriasis that is effective in reducing and controlling bacterial contamination. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic (peeling agent) that causes shedding of the outer layer of skin and so is used to treat psoriasis.
